Digital behavioural pattern results

The daily digital consumptions of our respondents vary at both ends as the 52.9% majority of Facebook users only visit the social networking site when they are free while 23.5% of Facebook users admit that they are addicted to feeling virtually connected with their friends via the mobile apps.

According to the statistics, 34 of out 51 of the Facebook users prefer viewing photos of a friend or a subscribed page while they are online. Checking to see what their friends are up to constitutes 54.9% of all 51 respondents that shows genuine concern of their friends as one of their priorities whenever they scroll through their timeline. At the same time, others would also watch videos, commenting on a post and chatting in private too. The least initiatives among the Facebook users is by creating or inviting friends to an event and posting up videos.

Ironically though 35.3% of 51 Facebook users have 501 – 1000 confirmed Facebook friends but mostly only know 37.3% of their friends in person. The stealth mode adopted by most Facebook users would explain why 54.9% of the respondents post less than one status weekly and 15.7% of them never post anything on Facebook.

The increase in the usage of the social networking site is backed by 33 of 51 Facebook users as compared with they did 6 months ago. However, 62.7% in which account for 32 respondents would think twice before adding their lecturers on Facebook while 16 respondents would rather keep it to themselves. Good thing to note that 51% of the overall 51 respondents are friends with both their parents. Worth mentioning though no one is friend with his or her father for various reasons.

On a more personal note, 52.9% of 51 Facebook users will add only their close friends on Facebook whereas the other 41.2% felt obliged to update with their peers. That being said, the check-ins on social networking site were taken quite positively as 43.1% or 22 users see that as a personal travel diary, 37.3% of users appreciate the sharing of their friend and 33.3% of them think that move will increase the chances of meeting up with Facebook friends.  Only 14 of 51 Facebook users are of the opinion that their friends check in intentionally for showing off.

The predominant thought on selfie is that 49% from the 51 respondents think that selfies have done no harm. Another 16 persons would not be bothered by selfies but 2 users state their concerns on the social trend while another 2 persons were once annoyed by selfies.

80.4% of 51 social media users admit to casting situational judgment on people on social media while another 4 persons would not make judgment online. As for stalking people online, 56.9% stalks due to curiosity, 31.4% stalks because of pure interest, 5.9% stalks owing to love or romance and 3.9% stalks for bad intent. 30 out of the 51 respondents put down loneliness as the reason for frequent status update in contrast to 13 people take uploading status as to share out happiness. We also found a significant of 60.8% of respondents who are not sure if blog is the most effective way to convey a message.

The main aim of this research survey is also to investigate the use of the social media by the University undergraduates. While most agrees that social media is the best informal hub and allows cost-effective communication, this generation of University students were quite neutral about social media as an alternative of sharing similar values. This equitable tendency is also seen in documenting and establishing oneself through social media. Considering that the stress and tension students faced in University’s life, most students depend greatly on social media as a source of enjoyment and entertainment.

  1. In my opinion, I don't believe that people visit FB when they are free. I think the respondents are lying :) I'm quite addicted to Facebook and I visit facebook every second in my life beacuse I scare I miss out something. It is quite common that we accept or send friend request to people that we don't know. But, I think it is good to accept someone you dunno because there will be at least one of them talk to you when you free angry, sad or happy. I think this survey is interesting, because I just realize that most of the people okay with selfie (I always do selfie, since most of them okay with that, i will keep on doing it!), most of them stalk people because of curiosity (curios for something is good thing, right? and it is more safe that they stalk you online than offline), most of them check in because they want to keep this memory not showing off, and I am so curious about why they don't want to add their father? XD I agreed that social media really can cure our loneliness as a stress, and busy university student.

  2. This survey is kinda interesting because it is a new knowledge knowing that some do not even bother to check on friend requests and some do. In my opinion, Facebook itself has no privacy, and when a person you do not know add you up as friend, why would you want to reject it? It can be that the person wants to get to know you or has interest in you or maybe someone you may know never existed?

I think 52.9% people who only browse Facebook on their free time were lying. People these days browse Facebook constantly wherever and whenever they are, since it is easily accessible through smart phones. Nevertheless, the results were interesting, different people have different online habits.

  4. Kenapa tiada soalan yang spesifik tentang Twitter? :D

  6. I am not a regular facebook user. According to this evaluation I can say that most of my classmates are addicted with Facebook. Facebook to me is something i will look upon when there is necessity.
